Ariana Remmel was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and grew up exploring the nature. After finished high school at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA in 2014, Ariana moved across the country to attend Reed College in Portland, Oregon.

After graduating with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2019, Ariana moved to San Diego, California to scuba dive and research marine natural products chemistry at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. They then began a PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, San Diego.

By Ariana’s second year in graduate school, however, they began to realize that their passions were shifting outside of research chemistry. Ariana decided to leave their program with a Masters in Chemistry in 2019 to attend the Science Communication Masters Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Now Ariana is a graduate student at UC Santa Cruz where they are learning the craft of science journalism. When not in class or working at their internship, Ariana likes to birdwatch in the Santa Cruz Mountains, train on their cyr wheel, and volunteer for Burning Man events.
